Łukasz Habaj has described his spectacular moment on Rally Liepāja that is the FIA European Rally Championship’s nomination for the FIA Action of the Year poll. The Polish driver and his navigator Jacek Spentany came close to rolling their Rallytechnology Ford Fiesta R5 on one of the Latvian gravel rally’s fast corners on stage nine, but Habaj controlled the two-wheeled moment well to continue in fifth place.

Habaj said: “We had in our pacenotes that this corner is very slippery. Well, it was even more slippery than I expected. It was the same corner where Frank Tore Larsen rolled. I think we were just a bit more lucky and I hope my reaction helped also. I turned towards the right direction just before it was too late. Of course everything happened so fast that I didn’t really have time to think too much.”
The clip of Habaj, which includes Eurosport helicopter and fan footage, is up against nominations from F1, WEC, WTCC, WRC, WRX, Formula E, European Formula 3 and KZ karting. “This nomination is really a great surprise for me as I didn’t expect anything like that,” said Habaj. “Being among top world class drivers from different motorsport disciplines feels just amazing and I really feel honoured. It definitely gives a lot of motivation to keep driving on the limit.”
